It’s been like months I haven’t been to places for events. So, after a late night discussion with Cyril and Fahriee (covering for SHIOK.ORG) through Twitter, we decided to get along with the event called “Walk-A-Payung” happened at Kuching Amphiteater. The event started at 7am for registrations whereas the walk-athon started at 8am.
We were informed about this event last week by Norman. It costs us for about RM20 per person. Pretty pricey right? But we were given a t-shirt, cap and an umbrella for the event. Besides the freebies, we were given free drinks and foods for breakfast and lunch too. So, it was worth the money.

The event started the journey at Kuching Amphiteater ended up at the same place though. It took us for about 4KM for the walk-athon. We passed the Ban Hock roundabout to continue the journey to Jalan Tun Abdul Rahman, passing Hilton Hotel, St. Mary school, SMB St. Thomas and the last was passing the Kuching Museum to the Kuching Amphiteather again.
The walk-athon was fine though. I enjoyed it so much, as I had never walked around the city and have a closed look on Kuching. The weather was fine, where it was raining at the early morning. But I guess, we were blessed enough that the rain stopped until the end of our journey.

Walk-A-Payung is organized by SLE organiztaion (Systemic Lupus Ertyhtomatosus) to create awareness among public about SLE sickness. Taking along the umbrella is a significant that patients to this sickness cannot be exposed to the sun. They are few types of Lupus which are SLE, Discoed Lupus Erythtomatosus and Drug-induced lupus.
The symptoms are such as painful or swollen joints, unexplained fever and extreme fatigue. Others include are skin rash, chest pain, unusual hair loss, anemia, mouth ulcers, headaches, dizziness, depression, confusion and even seizures. The few ways to treat SLE are depending on which parts are sick. For instance, patients with joints or chest pain is treated by using non steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs. Patients with joint pain, skin rashes and inflammation of the lungs are treated by using the antimalarials that is used to treat malaria. Those who are having suppressing inflammation will be treated by using corticosteroids. Whereas for kidneys and nervous systems effected patients, drug called immunosuppresive may be used to restrain the overactive immune system.

I personally think that this event would be very successful if lots of people were participating on the walk-athon. And the fund would be very high if they organized and promoted it well. I guess, if they did so, more people will come rather than what I saw today. But I really think that this kind of event is good. Kuching needs more and more charity events for sicknesses like AIDS, cancer and so. They more the people coming, the higher the fund we will get. Congrats to all SLE committee for today’s event. =)
